Mold grows in damp, dark, moist places. It is often found on food and in homes. Homes that have had water damage are the biggest culprits, and often the owners are unaware of the mold or its health risks. Knowing the symptoms to look for is a huge step in staying healthy.
Many people suffer from allergies. Allergic reactions can be brought on by mold spores in the air. This includes coughing, sneezing and a runny nose.
Asthma
Mold spores in the air can cause an asthma attack. The UCB Institute of Allergies states that approximately 14.5 million Americans suffer from asthma.
Radon, chemical element symbol Rn, is a radioactive colorless gas. According to the EPA, radon has been found in homes all over the United States. It comes from the natural breakdown of uranium in rock, soil and water, and penetrates the cracks and holes of the foundation of your house, intoxicating the air you breathe. Radon can also get inside your home through well water. There are a number of requirements that you must fulfill before testing for radon in your house.
To make sure that a radon testing service is able to detect the presence of radon in the air of your house, ensure closed building conditions in your house for at least 12 hours prior to the beginning of the measurement period.
Air Filtering Systems
Permanently installed energy recovery ventilators should operate normally, but it is recommended that you do not switch on dryers, bathroom fans, range hoods and other mechanical systems that draw air from the building before testing.
Nitric Oxide supplements are all the rage in body building circles. Many people that use this type of supplement feel that Nitric Oxide gives them more energy and a better muscle “pump.” There are, however, some side effects that may be associated with Nitric Oxide supplementation.
Nitric Oxide was first discovered in the 1980′s. It was found that this gas was present every time a muscle contracted and blood vessels were dilated. This is known as Hemodilation, which means that blood vessels are widened, blood flow is increased and more nutrients are being delivered throughout the body.
Stomach Upset
Gastrointestinal disturbances are the most well known side effect from using a Nitric Oxide supplement. Nausea and diarrhea were the most common complaints, however, this can be reduced if taken on a full stomach.
Mercury is a chemical that is harmful to the developing nervous systems of children and babies. All fish and shellfish contain mercury, but some species accumulate more than others.
Larger species of fish have higher levels of mercury because they live longer and have more time to accumulate it in their systems.
Safety
For most people, consuming fish is not a safety concern. The nutritional benefits of fish outweigh any risk.
Athletes are constantly searching for supplements that improve performance. Nitric oxide (NO) was developed by Ed Byrd, co-founder of EAS, as a supplement to build muscle. NO can have positive and negative effects for an endurance athlete.
NO acts as a hemodilator causing increased blood flow to muscles and causing a “pump” – or the feeling of blood-filled muscles.
Considerations
Originally, NO was designed for body builders as a supplement to gain muscle size. Endurance athletes are not typically looking to gain muscle size.
While mercury occurs naturally in the environment and is released through industrial pollution, a more serious form of environmental contamination, methylmercury, can be harmful to people. When mercury disperses in the air, the mercury will fall into water sources, contaminating fish. Methylmercury can accumulate over time in fish. Once consumed by humans, mercury can cause illness. Levels of methylmercury vary depending on the species of fish and what that fish consumes.
Species with the highest concentration of mercury are of concern.
Predatory species of marine life — such as swordfish, sharks and king mackerel — have the highest quantities of methylmercury. Contaminants in food are measured by parts per million. Fish such as sharks and swordfish have nearly 1 part per million, which is high. Some have levels of between 0.01 ppm and 0.5 ppm. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration asserts that larger fish have had time to ingest larger doses of methylmercury because they have lived longer than smaller of fish. Other fish that contain the highest levels of mercury include grouper, marlin, golden bass and orange roughy. Fish with the highest doses of mercury should not be eaten.
Lowest Levels
Fish containing lower levels of mercury are safe to eat, in small quantities. These include shrimp, crab and salmon. It’s acceptable to consume two meals a week of fish that are low in mercury, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. Catfish, clams, tilapia and herring are fish that also contain low mercury levels.
Noni nitric oxide is a product derived from a fruit-bearing tree called Morinda Citrifloia, or Noni. It is found in the tropical regions of the Pacific Ocean, Polynesia, Australia and parts of Asia. For centuries, noni fruit, leaves, bark and roots have been used to treat a number of ailments. It is one of the most powerful and widely used medicinal plants in the Pacific Islands. It is commonly used for joint pain and skin conditions.
Noni nitric oxide is available in two forms. The first is a concentrated formula of noni juice, which supports healthy levels of nitric oxide to improve blood circulation and help regulate brain, kidney, lung, liver and stomach activity. It reduces inflammation and helps improve immune system function. The second form is noni nitric oxide lotion, a potent form of noni used for a variety of skin ailments and topical uses to combat inflammation.
The most common side effect of noni nitric oxide is gastrointestinal problems. Noni is a high-fiber and high-carbohydrate fruit, so the juice has a natural laxative effect. Diarrhea and gas can occur, especially when you first start taking noni nitric oxide. Bloating is another side effect of noni nitric oxide that will usually subside over time.
Noni is a natural diuretic, so symptoms such as headache and bad breath can occur; drink plenty of water to avoid these side effects.
Allergic reactions
Allergic reactions are another possible side effect of noni nitric oxide. Coughing and wheezing can occur in people who are allergic to noni. Discontinue use immediately if you have any of these side effects.
Exposure to flashing lights is now part of every day life. At social events and concerts, college, school and at home, there is a constant assault from strobe lights, spot lights, computer screens, video games, television and even mobile phones. Long term exposure to flashing lights may cause health problems, but there are also damage limitation strategies.
For about 1 in 4,000 people, exposure to flashing lights of various intensities and frequencies can trigger an epileptic fit. Many people are unaware they are sensitive to flashing lights until they have a seizure. This condition is called photosensitive epilepsy. Symptoms range from brief periods of “absence” to full-blown, physical seizing of the muscles. According to Cambridge Research Systems, there is growing evidence that long-term socio-psychological damage can result from the trauma of these seizures. Seizures can also be triggered by television, video games and computer screens.
Migraine
No one yet knows what causes migraine headaches, but Bupa’s health information team claim it might be a result of low levels of serotonin that elicit changes to the blood vessels in the brain. Migraine headaches can last anywhere from 1 hour to 3 days and flashing or flickering lights are a common trigger. About a third of migraine sufferers develop “aura” before a migraine starts. This includes the sensation of flickering lights, numbness, a tingling sensation in the hands and arms, a ring of light around objects, and slurred speech.
As its name implies, severe asbestosis is an advanced stage of the disease. Asbestosis is contracted by extended exposure to asbestos, usually suffered by people who work in asbestos manufacturing plants. In addition to getting aggressive treatment, severe asbestosis patients should refrain from activities that tend to exacerbate the condition, such as smoking.
Severe asbestosis is an advanced stage of the respiratory disease caused by extended exposure to asbestos.
Features
In general, asbestosis symptoms include shortness of breath, chest pain or tightness, a persistent cough and reduced lung capacity.
Asbestosis is a severe respiratory disorder resulting from the excess inhalation of asbestos fibers. As these fibers accumulate in the lungs, scarring of lung tissue occurs, leading to breathing problems, coughing and chest pain, among others. Unfortunately, there is no cure for asbestosis, and treatment is relegated to managing symptoms and preventing the progression of the disease.
Since asbestosis can take upwards of 20 to 30 years to develop, symptoms might not appear until long after initial exposure. Once the lungs have been damaged, however, the effects cannot be reversed. As such, treatment begins with the immediate elimination of all contact with asbestos. This will halt the progression of lung damage and, if scarring has yet to occur, prevent it.
If symptoms are present, indicating asbestosis, the complete cessation of smoking will help reduce the risk of any further damage to the already weakened lungs. Possible complications can include lung cancer and emphysema, the risk of which is much greater due to the asbestosis.
Vaccines and Medications
With asbestosis, the weakened state of the lungs makes the severity of a common cold or the flu much greater. As such, receiving flu and pneumonia vaccines may be recommended to lower the risk of contracting a virus that might make breathing much more difficult. In addition, antibiotics such as Keflex and Ceclor may be prescribed to prevent the chance of a respiratory infection occurring.
Possible side effects of asbestosis include pulmonary hypertension (high blood pressure), which can be treated with blood pressure medication. Narrow or thin blood vessels may require the use of medications designed to thin the blood to allow it to move through the vessels with ease. Other medications can be prescribed to reduce the thickness of lung secretions, which would make it easier to breathe.
Chest or associated pain can be alleviated through over-the-counter medications such as ibuprofen and acetaminophen.
